Review for The Hateful Eight

The most recent film directed by Tarantino, The Hateful Eight takes place in the post-Civil War era, and fallows a group of eight strangers blizzard bound in a small Wyoming cabin. Unlike most of Tarantino's films that open with blood and action right off the bat, he takes his sweet time building it up, relying more on suspense then just jumping straight into the action (oh but trust me, its a Tarantino film, so you know there will be buckets and buckets of blood).  He spends over a half-hour on a stagecoach ride that introduces bounty hunter John "The Hangman" Ruth (Kurt Russel); his coach driver O.B. (James Park); his prisoner, the ruthless outlaw Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who is being escorted to Red Rock to be hanged by the neck till death;  Red Rock's new sheriff Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), a former outlaw that Ruth cant accept that he has become the new sheriff, and Maj. Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), an ex-slave turned anti-confederate war hero turned bounty hunter whose record of wartime atrocities makes Ruth distrust him and Mannix hate his guts.

Arriving at the cabin- a watering hole known as Minnie's Haberdashery- we are joined by a sprinkling of new characters. There is a smug British hangman, Oswald Morbray (Tim Roth, filling what might otherwise be the Christopher Waltz role), a furtive Mexican (Damien Bichir) who calls himself Bob, a smirking gun man by the name of Joe Gage (Michael Madsen, doing the whole Michael Madsen thing), and an old confederate general named Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern). You can probably guess that his relationship with Samuel L. Jackson doesn't play out so well. The joint's owner, Minnie, is no where to be found and her husband is missing right along with her.
                               
I really enjoyed this movie, party because it felt more like an experiment then a classic western. It was almost like Tarantino took bits a pieces from all different types of Westerns, put it in a pot, stirred them up a bit, then drizzled it all over this movie. Another thing to admire about this movie is that it was all short on Ultra Panavision 70mm, a format that has barley been used since the 1960s. All in all this movie is not without its faults but is not without its praise, and I definitely see this movie if you are in the mood for a gritty mystery with plenty of cussing and blood.

    Finally we have Phillip. J. Fry, aka Fry. He is not what you consider to be one of the smartest people in the universe. Actually he completely lacks any common sense or intelligence what so ever. To give you an example on how stupid he really is, when aliens Brains rendered the entire human race into a bunch bumbling idiots, Fry was completely unaffected, due to the fact that his IQ was the lowest on the entire planet.
          


     Some honorable characters mentions include: The Robot Mafia, led by Donbot, and escorted by his two henchmen, Clamps and Joey Mousepad. Not playing a huge role in the show, they only appear in a few episodes. Yet they remain some of my favorite characters in this show.

     Zapp Brannigan is the he pilot of the Nimbus ( The fag ship of Democratic Order of Planets) and is a 25 star general. Based off William Shatner and Capt Kirk, Matt Groening did everything in his power to make Zapp Brannigan as much of an egotistical asshole as possible .                                                                        
    The Robot Devil, really isn't that bad of a guy. He is the ruler of Robot Hell, and big fan of musicals, which are the entertainment equivalent of Hell. He is talented at playing the fiddle, so nationally he own a golden one. He lives in a amusement park in New Jersey, which was closed due to salmonella that the flum ride produced.
                                        

This show is absolutely amazing. Created by Matt Groening, (the mind behind the Simpsons) Futurama has received critical acclaim. The show has been nominated for 17 Annie Awards and 12 Emmy Awards, winning seven of the former and six of the latter. It has also been nominated four times for a Writers Guild of America Award, winning two for the episodes "Godfellas" and "The Prisoner of Benda", been nominated for aNebula Award and has received Environmental Media Awards for episodes "The Problem with Popplers" and "The Futurama Holiday Spectacular".Futurama-related merchandise has also been released, including a tie-in comic book series and video game, calendars, clothes and figurines. In 2013, TV Guide ranked Futurama as one of the top 60 Greatest TV Cartoons of All Time. This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I 100% recommend it to anyone thinking about watching it.

So your life is sh*t, you're a pizza delivery boy and you just caught your girlfriend cheating on you. Now if your life is similar to this, you might be Phillip. J. Fry. While delivering a pizza on December 31 2000, new year's eve to a cryogenics lab, he ends up falling into a chamber, freezing himself for 1000 years. Eventually waking up in the year 3000. Waking up, he finds that he has one sole living relative, Professor Hubert Farnsworth; a senile, completely insane, mad scientist, who has a collection of active doomsday machines. He also happens to own a small interplanetary delivery company called Planet Express.
 
Among the Professor's crew is Fry's best friend Bender. A homicidal, profane, alcoholic, egotistical, anarchistic, narcissistic robot who really doesn't give one sh*t.  

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Leela, a one eyed "Alien" with purple hair and a fiery temper, is the Captain of the Planet Express ship.  She represents the buzzkill in this show. Leela also has a pet named Nibbler. A hyper intelligent rat creature, who eats everything, can poop out dark matter and is a General in the military of his home planet, Nibblonian.       
                                                          

Among the lesser liked characters of the crew, we have Dr. Zoidberg. His race, known as Decapodians, are a lobster like creature from the Planet Decapod 10. The Decapodians once invaded Earth and enslaved Humanity. There are many famous Decapodians like Harold Zoid a famous actor and nephew, Dr. Zoidberg, who ate the Earth Flag and then saved the Earth. Zoidberg is a skilled alien doctor, who's experience runs out when it come to operating on humans. Being quite a pathetic character, you cant help but feel bad for him at times.

Ok so I know that this theory is all over the place, but just hang in there for a sec as we jump back to Pulp Fiction. Now, we all remember the scene where Jules helps himself to Brett’s burger. Proving that all these movies exist in the same universe.

One of the only Tarantino films that doesn't fit into the theory is Jackie Brown, which is an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel. Hopefully soon we will find out how The Hateful Eight fits into the picture.

The Tarantino Theory

Out of all the theories and connections out there, the Tarantino theory has to be my favorite. The theory goes to prove that all Tarantino films share the same universe and are happening on the same time line.

                RESERVOIR DOGS CONNECTION TO NATURAL BORN KILLERS

    Tarantino first broke into the scene with 1992’s Reservoir Dogs, a film about a jewelry heist gone way wrong. The team of colorful criminals hired to pull of this job all go by code names, with audiences never really knowing most of their true identities. But we do learn the name of one of them: everyone’s favorite ear-slicing, milkshake sipping psychopath Mr. Blonde aka Vic Vega https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqRHjYl955s brother to Pulp Fiction‘s Vincent Vega. When we first meet Vic, he has just gotten out of prison and has been assigned a parole officer Seymour Scagnetti, who Vic has no love for. Well as it so happens, Scagnetti has a brother too. Dect. Jack Scagnetti. Who is the Detective in charge of tracking down a pair of star-crossed cereal killers in the movie Natural Born Killers

Review for Dexter

     Mild mannered Dexter is a blood spatter expert for the Miami Police dept. with a secret. Under the nice exterior is a cold blooded killer who can't be stopped. Ever since Dexter was a child he had a need to kill. As a child, he mostly killed dogs, cats and other small animals. This continued until his foster father, Harry Morgan (Played by James Remar) who was also a police officer, started to find the bodies. Knowing that he will never be able to change Dexter, he decides to teach him a code of ethics to channel his need to kill. The first rule of this code is to never get caught and do whatever necessary to stay a free man. The second rule is never kill an innocent. Only people who deserve to die, people who have escaped justice and are walking free among the public. The code is never fully revealed, but it is referenced throughout the show.
                     
As the seasons progress, the line between his personal life, and his life as a killer slowly start to cross. Forcing Dexter to find his way out of every problem to avoid getting caught. Giving you a thrill ride of heart stopping scenes, twists, turns and pulse pounding action.
 

 With plenty of gore and action, this show is definitely not for the faint of heart. Yet with it's amazing story line, great performances, and bits of comedy, Dexter is definitely not a show that you want to miss. The show brings many of its characters into detail, not just following Dexter. This works great, and allows you to get more in depth and closer to other characters. All in all I completely recommend this show to any TV buff who hasnt seen it already.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

     This show has only needs two words to make it show awesome, Andy Samberg. Andy Samberg plays Jake Peralta, a carefree detective with best arrest record in Brooklyn. His behavior is mostly punishment free, but that all changes when Capt. Ray Holt becomes the head commander of the 99th and reminds Jake to respect the badge. Throughout the show we see them track down and capture thugs, murderers, bank robbers, sex offenders, the hole nine yards. Being an action comedy we are treated with both, but this show is definitely more on the more goofy side with plenty of gut busting scenes. which makes this show kinda hard to take seriously, but who could when it has Andy Samberg as the main role. Other characters in the 99  include Detective Amy Santiago, Sgt. Terry Jeffords, a devoted family man, Detective Charles Boyle, a hard worker who idolizes Jake, and Rosa Diaz, a sexy-yet-intimidating detective. Civilian office manager Gina Linetti is tasked with cleaning up everyone's mess, while somehow getting involved in everyone's business, and she is one of the characters that you will either love or hate. 

       l love this show because it takes the serious crime drama feel and turns it into awesome ride of action and comedy that blends into one great TV show. I personally have no idea if you're even a fan of the crime action comedy genera. If you're not, you will still enjoy this show because it doesn't just rely on the cop aspect. Although you seem to see many of the action comedy buddy cop, crime shows and movies, this is one that is well deserved to be remembered as one of the best.
